DUNNVILLE—Now three years in the making, the Haldimand Lions clubs and the Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) came together to donate almost $75,000 towards the creation of an eye clinic in the Haldimand War Memorial Hospital (HWMH).
Dr. Rajeshvar “Jesh” Sharda spoke with the Dunn-ville Lions Club initially about the need for a clinic to support cataract surgery at the hospital, along with other eye health care services. The Press wrote about Sharda previously, as he has been performing cataract surgeries in Dunnville and paying for the costs from his own pocket.
Dunnville Lions club member and HWMH board member Perry Barnhart took the lead in encouraging local Lions clubs to make donations towards the clinic’s creation. Lions clubs that contributed to the cause included Dunnville, Fisherville, Jarvis, Selkirk, Hagersville, Caledonia, and Townsend. Along with the help of the Dunnville Lioness Club and the Men’s Club of the South Cayuga Community Church, these organizations raised nearly $33,000.
