CALEDONIA—Ward 3 Councillor Dan Lawrence has an eye on the future of Caledonia, in particular how residents will cross the river.
The area is projected to see large amounts of growth in both population and employment, according to a forecast submitted to Council during the August 27, 2019 Council and Committee meeting. With this is mind, Lawrence would like the County to begin thinking about infrastructure needs that will arise with that growth, and primary amongst those needs is transportation.
Lawrence presented a motion before Council to conduct a feasibility study on building a new traffic bridge over the Grand River. He feels such an endeavour will soon become a necessary expense for the County to consider.
“There is some concern over the cost of a study, and the need for it. So, it was amended that staff will investigate the cost of the feasibility study … so that if we move forward, we would have to pass that in next year’s budget,” said Lawrence. “It will be a significant cost, there is no doubt about it.”
