HALDIMAND—The following were discussed at the November 19, 2019 Council in Committee and the November 25 Council meetings.
BIAs present to Council
Kathy Marshall from the Caledonia BIA, Andrew Rose from Dunnville BIA, and Rob Phillips from Hagersville BIA gave brief presentations to Council about the work each organization has completed in the last year.
All three BIAs highlighted successes from the last year, the need for volunteers for events and work that needs to be completed, and the frustrations of absent landlords.
Council to meet with flyer distributors
Council has asked staff to hold one last meeting with flyer distributors in the county before making a decision regarding regulating the practice.
Mayor Ken Hewitt said the need for a solution is not as easy as Council would like it to be. “We hear the complaints, and this is a challenge for us. We are looking for viable solutions,” said Hewitt.
Ward 2 Councillor John Metcalfe said the issue is one he hears about regularly from constituents: “It has become a nuisance to many, plastic bags in ditches and on people’s property. They need to come to the door and put them in a mailbox.”
A meeting date will be confirmed and councillors were urged to attend.
