Have Your Say: Re: Letters to the Editors on teachers

To the Editors,

I long have believed this Opinion Page is underutilized. Contributors don’t have to be Pulitzer prize winners. I am proof of that. We are invited to share good news and gripes – issues that won’t make the front page, but which concern us. The Editors want to hear from us, and I like to read what’s on your mind.

I was impressed that two readers took time to reply to my previous letter. It doesn’t matter they disagree with me. Diverse viewpoints are necessary to fully explore important subjects.

Mr. Wadel and Mr. Burton deserve the courtesy of a reply to some comments stimulated by my previous letter. First, I have no political affiliation or aspirations. Second, it never has been a secret that I am proudly related to three generations of Ontario public school system teachers, and also a full Professor and internationally respected Director of Research in Animal Science at a prestigious Canadian University. That last one is my over-achieving sister. None of them have asked, or needs, me to defend them or their profession. However, that does not disqualify me from supporting the profession, or any other groups and individuals I see unfairly attacked and disparaged.
