Anne McAlpine: March 26, 2020

Note: Anne McAlpine’s daughter, Allison Sladin, is writing this column for the time being.

I thought this week would be a perfect time to share some kid-friendly recipes. The frozen yogurt cups and yogurt covered berries on a stick are fun treats for children to make with healthy ingredients. The dressed-up popcorn is a special treat that the whole family can make together.

When making the yogurt covered berries on a stick, I break off the sharp point of the skewer if younger children are making them.

When making the dressed-up popcorn, your child’s preference will dictate what and how much chocolate and marshmallows you use. My son does not like white chocolate but prefers dark chocolate. We always have dark chocolate bars on hand, so that is what we melt to drizzle with. Yet for the dad “kid” in the family, we use white chocolate. Yes, we make two different batches.

I know the chocolate macaroon recipe has been in my mom’s column before, but when I was thinking of what recipes to share with you for this column this recipe immediately came to mind. This was my brother’s favourite recipe to make on his own; however, he called them mud and worm cookies. I say on his own, because he would not let mom help at all. I think this was his way of making sure he could make giant cookies. Jason often ate half of the cookies.
