Why are local businesses having a hard time filling positions?

HALDIMAND—A recent initiative of St. Leonard’s Community Services, #SignsOfHiring, showcased a growing discrepancy in Haldimand County as many employers of understaffed businesses are receiving little to no interest in job postings.

The campaign’s objective is to help promote local businesses looking for help by encouraging businesses and residents to share photos of physical ‘help wanted’ signs online with the hashtag #SignsOfHiring.

Malcolm Whyte, Director of Employment Services for St. Leonard’s, spoke about why this issue is persisting locally right now, and how St. Leonard’s is trying to find creative ways to help connect employers and job seekers.
