CALEDONIA—On Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 12:40 a.m., Haldimand OPP stopped a vehicle on Argyle Street North in Caledonia that was travelling more than 60 km/hour above the posted 80 km/hour speed limit.
Police have charged a 22-year-old of Hamilton with Stunt Driving – 40km/h or more over the posted speed limit, contrary to Section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused was issued a provincial summons to attend court, along with a 30 day driver’s licence suspension.
The involved vehicle was towed and will be impounded for 14 days.
The individual is to appear at the Provincial Offences Court in Cayuga at a later date to answer to the charges.
“Too many times officers respond to motor vehicle collisions that involve either seriously injured or even deceased occupants. Although there are several possible causes for these collisions, speed is often one of the factors. It is better to arrive late than never arrive at all,” said Haldimand Constable Mary Gagliardi.
