HALDIMAND—Haldimand OPP is reminding the public of properly securing and checking on your cottage frequently to help reduce the number of break-ins and thefts.
The OPP are urging all vacation property owners to ensure that all valuable items and alcohol are removed from the premises.
Small appliances and alcohol are often targeted by thieves as they are easy to steal and equally as easy to sell for cash and drugs. Homes should be properly locked at all times.
Police encourage property owners to have someone check their vacation property daily during the “off-season” to ensure everything is secure.
This tried and tested method is the best deterrent against crime.
The OPP continue to appeal to persons living in and around trailer parks and/or cottages to report any and all suspicious activity to police when it happens.
The OPP will remain committed to cottage and trailer security and maintain the Cottage Watch Program. For more information about this program and many others visit opp.ca.
“A caring, committed community working together…. That’s what it takes to fight crime,” said an OPP release.
