
This photo was in the January 9, 1991 edition of The Haldimand Press with the title ‘Canada Crushed Stone Co. Ltd. – Provided Many With Employment’. The description read: “Quarrying was big business in Hagersville 60 years ago. Pictured above in this 1930 photograph are 44 employees of the Canada Crushed Stone Co. Ltd. The quarry, located in Hagersville’s west end, was the community’s first quarry and was founded by John Porter. John C. Inglis bought the quarry from Beatty Brothers in 1982 and proceeded to expand the business. It was known as the Inglis Quarry, but the official name became ‘The Hagersville Contracting Company’ about 1910. It was sold to Canada Crushed Stone Co. Ltd. at the time of Mr. Inglis’ death (circa 1920). This old photograph was supplied by Louis and Marlene Skraba and Rose Basili supplied the names listed below and many of them, you will notice, are prominent in the area to this day….
