DUNNVILLE—To take away the February chills, the Dunnville Optimists will be serving chili on February 26, 2022 to help support their work in the community.
The Optimists are offering up a chili dinner that includes a choice of regular or spicy chili plus a Caesar salad, purple slaw, garlic toast, and a drink. The cost is $10 per dinner and cheesecake will also be available for an additional $5. The dinner will be served at the Optimist Hall at 101 Main St. E. in Dunnville this Saturday, February 26 from noon until 6 p.m. The meal will be offered as takeout, but limited seating will also be available to eat in. It is suggested that patrons pre-order the meals to ensure that there will be enough chili for everyone. To order, you can e-transfer (email at end of article) or call 905-774-7244.
The Optimists continue to provide the youth with the opportunity to develop and showcase their creativity and skills. Currently, there are two contests available to the youth in the community. The first is the Optimist International Musical Happiness Competition – Instrumental and Vocal. This exciting program is designed to encourage and celebrate youth instrumental and vocal categories. This year’s theme is “Optimism”. The winners will be awarded prizes at the of $250, $150, and $100 respectively for first, second, and third place in the instrumental and the vocal category. The instrumental or vocal submission shall be no longer than three minutes and must be submitted by March 1.
The second contest is the Oratorical Contest. This year’s theme is “Staying Optimistic in Challenging Times”. The youth will be presenting their speeches on March 7 at the Optimist Hall. The winners will be awarded prizes of $150, $100, and $50. First place finisher will advance to the Zone level and possibly the District level. Winners of the District level contest will receive a scholarship for use at a college, university, or trade school only. There will be three winners awarded scholarships of $2,500, $1,500, and $1,000 respectively for first, second, and third place.
