HALDIMAND — We’ve all noticed it. The club pack of yogurt that cost $9 two months ago costs $12 today. The house you saw listed for $300,000 three years ago just sold for $700,000, and perhaps most visibly right now, the $40 it used to take to fill your tank now only brings it to half.

Inflation may be a fact of life, but looking at the most recent Consumer Price Index (CPI) stats released by Statistics Canada for January 2022, some alarming trends revealed themselves. The index overall rose 5.1% on a year-over-year basis in January, up from a 4.8% gain in December 2021. This is the fastest pace registered by the CPI since its introduction.
