JARVIS—The Jarvis Lions Park has a new attraction following the installation of a disc golf course on June 20, 2022.
“We just finished installing a sweet little par-three, nine-hole disc golf course at the Jarvis Lions Park,” said Shannon Bunton, Jarvis Lion and owner of Concession Road Brewing Company.
Bunton and her husband Jeff were the inspiration behind the new course.

JARVIS—The Jarvis Lions Park now hosts Haldimand’s second and newest disc golf course. Above left, Lions Hans, Dianne, Rob, and Darrel put together the basket to be installed on June 20, 2022.
“We have been playing disc golf for about three years now, travelling across Ontario playing courses,” explained Bunton. The couple hosted a disc golf clinic at their brewery in June 2021, led by Zac Jolliffe of Innova Canada. The clinic showcased the sport to several residents, giving them tips on how to best throw the disc. Like regular golf, the overall goal of the game is to get the disc from the tee point to the “hole” in the least number of moves.
“We told Zac that we would love to have a course in town. With the help of Zac and Darrell Bankes of Innova Discs, we mapped out a course,” explained Bunton. “We invited the Jarvis Lions to the brewery to pitch the course to them. They loved the idea of using underutilized park space for a disc golf course.”

JARVIS—A year prior, Concession Road Brewing Company in Jarvis hosted a disc golf clinic to showcase the sport locally.
As previously reported in The Press, the Lions and Jarvis Parks Committee brought the idea to Haldimand County Council for support, receiving $4,900 of the $14,000 budget for the course installation earlier this year.
A rapidly growing sport in Ontario, the County noted disc golf is a low-cost recreational activity suitable for both individuals and families of all ages and abilities. The sport’s popularity has already been seen in Caledonia, where there is a well-used course at LaFortune Park.
“A big thank you to the Jarvis Lions for seeing the value of a course in our town and for all your hard work today!” said a statement from Concession Road Brewing following the installation of the new course. The Lions met at 8:30 a.m. on June 20 for the installation and were playing by that afternoon. Once put together, cages were installed much like fence posts, being concreted into place inside deep holes.
Those interested in playing can purchase a disc at Concession Road Brewing and can download the UDisc app, which includes information about courses across Ontario and has a scorecard included to track your scores. Concession Road Brewing is also planning a second disc golf clinic this July; once available, full details can be found at concessionroadbrew.com under events.
“We hope to work with other Lions clubs and install more courses in Haldimand in the near future,” concluded Bunton. “We are so happy our hometown has a course!”
