DUNNVILLE — The Dunnville Grand Tour took place on August 20 and 21, 2022, beginning and ending at the Dunnville Memorial Area. Organizer Attila Elek said that COVID put a dent in this year’s number of participants, with approximately 700 people participating.

“We had a great time. Thanks to everyone who came out to ride and thanks to the volunteers,” said Elek. “It was a wonderful event, and we had the best weather – there was thunder overnight but in the morning the sun came out and it was a beautiful ride.”

Riders arrived from various parts of North America, including British Columbia, Quebec, Michigan, Georgia, New York, etc. Individual and group riders alike had a fantastic time, sharing laughs, forming friendships, and enjoying the beautiful scenery along Lake Erie. Every 30km a variety of refreshments were available and a spaghetti lunch and ice cream was provided at the end.

Laurie Bizior of Hamilton and Laurie Pederson of Oakville completed the 25km distance. They are just two of the many riders who are planning to register for next year’s event. They said that they enjoyed the event, as well as Elek’s uplifting spirit and assistance with the tour.

During the tour Elek was busy checking up on riders, showing them the correct route, and filling up the resting stations with water, fruits, and other refreshments. Many riders expressed great appreciation for Elek’s assistance and for the beautiful routes he selected.

Elek says thank you to all volunteers and local businesses who helped make the tour possible. A portion of the proceeds from the tour will go to True Experience, although the final amount was not determined as of press time.
