DUNNVILLE—On Saturday, September 10, 2022, True Experience Supportive Housing & Community Work Program held their annual walk in support of World Suicide Prevention Day. Approximately 70 people participated and wore yellow t-shirts. The walk began at the True Experience office on Forest Street and proceeded to Central Park where they had guest speakers, a barbecue, and a candle lighting. Individuals from all ages came together to share their stories, inspiring empathy and understanding for those struggling with mental illness in addition to those who have lost loved ones to suicide.

The evening showcased self-advocacy, self-worth, and the importance of reaching out when someone is struggling. “It’s everyone’s responsibility to take a look around at the people in your life. If you think someone needs help, reassure them of the love and support you have for them. You might just save someone’s life,” said True Experience Executive Director, Rhonda Geyer.
