HALDIMAND—A Haldimand resident was contacted by an unknown person claiming to be a lawyer, who said the victim’s grandson was in a collision and charged with impaired driving. The “lawyer” said they needed $3,000 for liability fees and to avoid the grandson being held in custody.
Feeling their grandson was in serious trouble, the victim provided credit card information to pay the fees.It wasn’t until the victim contacted family to check on the condition of their grandson did they realize they were scammed.
It is imperative to verify any unsolicited contact before you respond. Contact your family and inquire if anyone needs help.
