JARVIS—To help celebrate the Haldimand Curling Club’s (HCC) 50th anniversary, Concession Road Brewing Company of Jarvis has brewed a lager exclusively for the Haldimand Curling Club.
The new HCC logo is proudly featured on the front of the can. Last fall there was a contest where members of the club submitted suggestions to name the beer. Many excellent entries were considered and the winning suggestion of “Broomstacker” was submitted by Tammy MacLean.
Broomstacking has been a long-standing tradition in curling. The term refers to the social get-together after each game. Originally, after completing a curling game on the pond, curlers would stack their brooms in front of the fire and enjoy beverages with their opponent. This tradition is still alive today and it is expected that you partake in broomstacking after every game. The custom dictates that the winners buy the losers the first round of drinks, with each winning team member buying their counterpart the round. They talk, they laugh, they rehash the game with other curlers, their opponents, and their teammates. Later on, the losing team will then purchase beverages for the winning team.

Curling is an incredibly social sport. Broomstacking is a great way to meet and socialize with other curlers. It cements the Haldimand Curling Club motto: “a social club that curls”.
Special thanks to Jeff Bunton of Concession Road Brewing Company for his work in producing Broomstacker Lager.
Haldimand Curling Club will be having a 50th Anniversary Celebration at Fisherville District Lions Community Centre on March 25, 2023. It will be a night of entertainment, with dinner and dancing.
