Jackpot surpasses $209,000

HAGERSVILLE—Thursday, January 19, 2023 the Hagersville Lions and company broke all local Catch the Ace records again. We sold 21,856 tickets this time – 6,859 tickets more than the week before.

The weekly winners were a group of four who brought three tickets for $20 together. Their chosen envelop #5 with the 2 of Diamonds gives them 20% of Week 35’s sales, or $29,080! That would have been the jackpot a few weeks ago. If the Ace of Spades was drawn they would have won the $164,666 jackpot. Getting to go another week, the jackpot for the next draw on Thursday, January 26 is estimated at $209,909 as we near the quarter-million-dollar mark.

In terms of busyness, if we average that each person buys six tickets, then we had more than 3,600 people come to the Legion last Thursday. The parking around the Legion gets busy and people park further away and walk to get tickets. We try to have a very efficient system for handling ticket sales, the filling of the tickets, answering questions, and dropping the tickets into the raffle drum. We hear that it doesn’t take people too long to do all that – so I think that our efforts are working.

Speaking of our raffle drum: we had to get a new custom-built drum because the previous drum was just not big enough anymore. Nobody knows how long we will keep going before we catch the ace, but if it continues many more weeks we might just need to use a cement truck next.

Catch the Ace tickets are available at the Legion Thursdays from 2:30 to 7:50 p.m.
