HAGERSVILLE/CAYUGA—The girls volleyball match-up previously postponed by icy weather was finally hosted at Cayuga Secondary on January 19, 2023. Hagersville seems to be duplicating their season from last year and building toward the play-offs. In 2022, the Cayuga Juniors had controlled the regular season, only to suffer an upset in the first round of the play-offs by Hagersville, who went on to win CWOSSA and play at OFSSA. Parts of those Junior teams are now Seniors, and the current Junior teams saw an influx of talent from Grade 9 kids. The match-up began with the Senior girls, and, although every game was close, the visitors in red swept three straight games. Pictured is a shot from game two, with Hagersville already leading their hosts 15-11. The Junior match looked to be a repeat, as Hagersville opened with a win, but Cayuga stormed back for two straight. The visitors tied the match in game four. For the tie-breaker, however, Cayuga got it all together, with Addison Jepson’s serves coming alive to forge a lead that they never relinquished. —Haldimand Press photo by Bruce Burton.
