CAYUGA—The Haldimand Curling Club held its playoff night on Friday, March 10, 2023 to decide the season championship. It all came down to a final game between team Laurie (Laurie Admiral, Jim DeKlerk, Kim Lint, and Ken Kerssies) and team Glenn (Glenn Rowell, Jim Kent, Vicki Duxbury, and Blair King). Glenn’s team was skipped by Jim in Glenn’s absence. The game started well for Jim, scoring two in the first end. Laurie came storming back with four in the second end and one more in the third. Jim had one in the fourth end before Laurie took control and built a commanding lead of 11 to 3 after six ends. Jim made a valiant effort at a comeback but fell short. The final score was 11 to 7. In a draw to the button, second place was awarded to team Brendan (Brendan Murphy, Mike Kelly, Cheri McNally, and Ann Smith). The teams in the lower half of the standing had their own playoff to determine third prize, with the team of Andy MacDonald, Roy Fox, Wade Dowling, and Krista Roberts taking this honour. After the curling was over the teams socialized over pizza and some liquid refreshments.
