DUNNVILLE—The Dunnville Farmers’ Market is making a change! Our customers spoke and we listened. Starting May 2, 2023 our Tuesday market hours will be from 2 to 7 p.m.
We put out a survey asking our customers about our Tuesday market hours and with great response our customers spoke, and we listened.
Tuesday morning market is no longer a viable time for most busy working households. The feedback was an afternoon/dinner market would be better.
Following the Caledonia Farmers’ Market business concept, we anticipate an increase in traffic flow at our Tuesday markets, just has been seen in the past couple of years in Caledonia.
To help get out the word about the change:
- We will be attending the Dunnville Lions Home and Garden Show April 14 and 15. We will have a booth set up, where people can learn about our market and about our farmers. We will be giving away free recipes, calendars, colouring pages, balloons, and seeds while supplies last.
- We will be running monthly and weekly draws at the Tuesday market for market bucks. Market bucks give the customer the opportunity to get free fresh produce every week.
- We will also be running raffles throughout the season for gift baskets made up of products from our vendors.
- We are now taking applications for Farm Producers and Food Producers on our website at dunnvillefarmersmarket.ca.
We are excited at the opportunity to expand on our farm vendors and give more small farms an opportunity to be a part of both our market days – Saturdays from 7 a.m. to noon and now Tuesdays from 2 to 7 p.m.
Dunnville Market History & Location
Dunnville is a picturesque community of 12,000 people located along the beautiful Grand River on Highway #3, between the Niagara and Hamilton regions and less than an hour away from the US border.
We are a diverse market established in 1893. In 2017 a once-vacant parking lot located in the downtown area of Dunnville, right on the Grand River, was converted into a waterfront park with walking paths, green space, and a signature pavilion that became the new home to the Dunnville Farmers’ Market on Tuesday and Saturdays.
Walking distance to the downtown core and the boat club behind us has made this location easily accessible.
The association quickly raised over $200,000 toward the construction costs of the new building with the wonderful support of our local community.
The old market spot was torn down and is now the parking lot.
Shopper Facts
- Thousands of tourists are attracted to our community every year because of the Grand River.
- Our municipal and provincial tourism departments promote the market as a must-do stop while visiting.
- During the months between May and November we get many tourists, and most are regular weekly customers because they have trailers or cottages here and stay for most of the summer.
- Our local residents are loyal customers to our market and often you will see the same faces both days.
- It’s a community gathering place and often you will see many generations of the same family.
Fee & Organizational Structure
We are a not-for-profit association and are strictly run by our vendors association members.
Our Board of Directors is also made up of our farm vendors. This means we have no paid staff. This helps to keep our yearly vendor fees low. Be sure to check out our website for the application. We offer a few different ways you can take part at our markets.
