HAGERSVILLE—With the Ward 4 by-election to replace former councillor Natalie Stam scheduled for June 19, 2023, the deadline for nominees to register is fast approaching. Those who wish to run for the seat must submit their forms by May 5 at 2 p.m.
As of publication, just two candidates have registered for the by-election, with Stam’s predecessor Tony Dalimonte and former Haldimand mayor Marie Trainer set to duke it out for the position.
Those wishing to throw their names in the ring must be a Haldimand resident, or own or rent property in the county/have a spouse who does. Additionally, they must be a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years of age. Nominees must also include endorsements from at least 25 residents along with their form and must pay a fee of $100 to enter the race.
Forms and fees must be submitted to the Municipal Clerk before spending or raising any money on campaign activities.
Stay tuned to The Haldimand Press in the coming weeks for profiles on the candidates, and keep an eye on our social media pages where we will ask the community for questions that we will task the nominees with answering.
