“Rain, rain, go away, come again another day” is an often heard phrase in the spring. We know the rain is essential to our gardens, but we are also eager to see some sun after winter.
Once a child asked me where birds go when it rains. This depends partly on how hard it is raining. Large birds that live out in the open, such as gulls, hawks, and pigeons, usually sit and wait out heavy rain. Small songbirds living in trees and shrubs may seek sheltered spots under branches. Birds around towns may take shelter in porches or sheds.
Our April General Meeting speakers were Brittany and Daniel from Ruthven Park. Brittany gave a brief history of Ruthven and Daniel, Stewardship Coordinator, discussed the native species there, special areas of the park, and the current programs and projects.
HHS Green Gardian Youth members made bird houses recently. They plan to attend the bird program at Ruthven Park in May.
On April 22, members Rabiya Azeez and Sharon Slack participated in the Knights of Columbus Chili Cook Off. Their delicious chili was a hit with the crowd.
