DUNNVILLE—As previously reported, the Dunnville Horticultural Society (DHS) received one of the major awards at this year’s Volunteer Recognition Night. Just 36 hours later, they demonstrated why they were selected as they did their annual clean-up of the various flower beds in Dunnville. Funded by a Beautification Grant from Haldimand County, each spring sees members of DHS planting the flowers in the many beds located throughout Dunnville. They then have teams allotted to each bed for weeding throughout the summer months, and then cut back the dying foliage in the fall. The cut vegetation is gathered at the final stop of the clean-up at the centennial fountain near Muddy the Mudcat; shown above is Cynthia Lipinski gathering the materials. Because of the amount of vegetation it is not possible for individual members to compost, so Jeff’s Outdoor provides truck, trailer, and driver free of charge for this purpose.
