Trying to reach government agencies

To the Editor,

You don’t suppose having trouble reaching government agencies could have anything to do with more than 80% of their workers working from home, do you?

Easy solution would be to issue the caller one of their home phone or email addresses rather than put them on hold, which will time out and only add to the caller’s problems.

The bigger problem with littering

To the Editor,

As I was enjoying a beautiful end-of-July morning in Jarvis, I found myself in the Tim Hortons drive thru, a place in which many are familiar. I will be honest with the reader: I am here to complain. However, I will not be complaining on behalf of my own selfishness; rather that of others.

This is not about having to wait a turn in line on a busy day. Waiting is a part of life we must all consider.

As I was admiring the well-kept property and hard work put in by the staff, I couldn’t help but notice an atrocity: many people had taken empty cups and cans and thrown them on the ground outside of the gated disposal bins for someone to pick up and dispose of.

The drive thru is for convenience purposes, but throwing your garbage on the ground for someone to have to pick up is not someone else’s job.

For the valued employees, this type of behaviour needs to stop. Customers don’t want to see this either. I recommend management and/or owners put up a sign to deter would-be litterers that says, “Please do not throw your garbage on the ground. Please respect our employees. Thank you.”

In conclusion, this is unacceptable. Through human conditioning, people have learned to disconnect from the consequences of their actions, leading them to casually discard garbage on the ground without a second thought.

This conditioned disregard for waste disposal not only pollutes the environment, but also reflects a deeper societal neglect that erodes community wellbeing and responsibility.
