Peacefully, surrounded by his family, John Conlin passed away at the age of 85. He was the beloved spouse of Kay for six wonderful years. John is survived by his loving siblings, Paul (Jo-Ann), Hugh (Andrea), Noreen (the late Pat) (Tom Connolly) Flynn, and Cathy (Doug) Ellison. John will be missed by Kay’s sister Bonnie and husband Bob McCrae, and Kay’s son Troy Pierroz. He was the father of Liana and Anissa, and a grandfather to his four grandchildren. John is survived by adoring nieces and nephews, along with his great-nieces and great-nephews. A dedicated civil engineer for over 60 years, he earned his engineering degree at University of Waterloo and later an MBA and Professional Planning designation. John eventually owned and operated his own successful company in Welland. He was a pragmatic and strong leader who served as the anchor of his family. Deeply invested in his community, John lent his expertise to the Committee of Adjustment and proudly served with the Port Colborne Coast Guard. John was an incredibly handy gentleman who was never without his toolbox. He was always ready to fix anything and everything for family and friends. His ambitious spirit even led him to achieve his pilot’s license, though his building legacy began much humbler, with a very sturdy dog house and a family cottage. He was an adventurous soul, an avid boater, and enjoyed travelling with his motorhome. John loved playing cards with Kay, especially euchre, and he will be deeply missed by many close friends. He will especially be missed at the annual sibling weekend, a cherished tradition he shared with his brothers and sisters for the last 40 years. The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Dunnville Hospital for their kind and compassionate care. Funeral mass will be held at St. Stephen’s Church, Cayuga, on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 11 a.m. Visitation one hour prior. Reception to follow.
