Axtion Sports Jam focuses on kids’ mental health

WATERFORD—Saturday, September 19, 2026 was a day of leaps and bounds in Waterford for the fifth annual Axtion Sports Jam presented by Haldimand-Norfolk REACH through the ReachOutYouth program.

The day was a friendly competition for youth of all ages, and also a way to remind everyone that mental fitness is like a muscle, in that the more you work it, the stronger it gets. It was also a reminder that physical activity can be a good way to relieve stress, get some exercise, and have fun.

Despite dark clouds and a sprinkle of rain, the event continued with many smiles and amazing tricks.

A highlight was the presentation of the Heart of Jam award to honour the memory of Mark Czuba, one of the lead creators of the event. The inaugural award was presented to Brennan DaHarry of Burlington.

DaHarry is a student at Mohawk College. He has been scootering for six years and has been involved in groups such as Evolve Camp, the Girl Scouts, and was a technical assistant in the Amazing Race Canada.

He was very honoured to be chosen as the first recipient of the Heart of Jam award.

“It was an award for someone who carries on the same passion as Mark did. To have HN REACH choose me (for) the award really shows me that I am making a difference and honouring what Mark has created,” DaHarry said.

He acted as co-host for the event, providing colour commentary for the day and a spectacular demonstration on a scooter, which included a vertical 360-degree loop.
