CALEDONIA—After three weeks, it seemed like positive progress had been made in removing the traffic blockade barring access to the Highway 6 bypass in Caledonia as protesters began removing portions of the barrier. However, by the morning of Tuesday, March 17, 2020 it was apparent that the situation was not over.
“Today we are announcing a roll back of the blockade of Highway 6 at Six Nations. The large barricade line at Highway Six and Argyle at the edge of Caledonia is being pulled back. However, at this time, the road will remain closed. We will continue to stand for Onkwehonwe rights and sovereignty across Turtle Island,” said protester Skyler Williams in a Facebook status update earlier this week. “We will remain to hold our blockade on Highway 6 until either the RCMP and CGL leave Wet’suwet’en territory, or until after the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs and/or the Unist’ot’en and Gidimt’en camps call for an end to the solidarity actions.”
