CALEDONIA—Protestors in support of the Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs continued to occupy the Highway 6 bypass in Caledonia as of press time on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.
The demonstration began on Monday, February 24, blocking traffic on the bypass from Argyle Street South to Greens Road. A solidarity demonstration march also took place on the morning of Sunday, March 1 on Main Street in Hagersville from King Street to First Line.
The OPP were initially re-directing all northbound traffic at Fourth Line to lessen traffic in town and help avoid vehicles crossing the bridge that are too large for the current weight restrictions in place. The OPP removed this block last week so passenger vehicles may pass, while overweight vehicles are expected to follow signs for a detour.
