CALEDONIA—The Caledonia Agricultural Society is delighted to announce the launching of the Caledonia Fair Ambassador Program. The program will select a young person, aged 17 or older, each year to represent the Caledonia Agricultural Society at the annual Caledonia Fair and other community events. Each term will finish with the outgoing ambassador competing for the title of “Ambassador of the Fairs” at the CNE.

“We are looking for young adults who are interested in a leadership opportunity and being involved in their community,” says committee member and Fair Homecraft President Lisa Liegler. “The ambassador will receive speaking and presentation training and gain experience volunteering for the betterment of our community. They will learn more about the inner workings of the Caledonia Fair and the Ag Society. There will be opportunities to meet and work with other ambassadors from across Ontario, and members of our own community.”

An ambassador will be selected each summer in a competition that consists of an interview with a panel of judges, creating a ‘visual resume’, delivering a prepared speech, and answering an impromptu question. The 2023-24 ambassador will compete at the 2024 CNE.

The Caledonia Fair Ambassador will receive a $1,000 bursary at the end of their term. Each contestant must be 17 years of age or older by August 1, 2023, and a resident of Haldimand County. The competition will be held on Thursday, June 29 at the Caledonia Fairgrounds, in conjunction with the Fair Membership Appreciation Banquet. Full details and competition entry forms are available online at caledoniafair.ca, and the deadline for entries is June 1.

“We are looking forward to engaging with our area’s youth and finding our first Caledonia Fair Ambassador,” adds Liegler. “Youth are the future of our fair and of the Ag Society, so we are excited to encourage more youth involvement and development through the Ambassador Program.”
