Caledonia splits weekend after one game cut short

CALEDONIA—A pair of weekend games brought mixed results for the Caledonia Corvairs, with one match suspended and the other ending in a narrow loss.

On Friday, October 17, 2025 the Corvairs were leading 3-1 over the Caledon Bombers when play was suspended with 4:48 remaining in the second period. The stoppage came after a major penalty to Caledonia’s Micheal Derbidge for head contact. The game will be completed at a later date.

Before the suspension, the Corvairs had been in control from the opening frame.

Ethan Quick opened the scoring at 12:58 of the first, assisted by Ethan Osborne and Joey Wassilyn. After Caledon tied it short-handed, Gage Butcher restored the lead less than two minutes later with help from Ty McHutchion and Braydon Hobson.

Early in the second, McHutchion extended the lead with a short-handed goal, assisted by Carson Littlejohn. Goaltender Maverick Fletcher turned aside 18 of 19 shots before play was halted.

The Corvairs’ penalty kill remained perfect on three chances, but the power play went 0-for-3.

Less than 24 hours later, the Corvairs returned home to face the Hamilton Kilty B’s on October 18, falling 3-2 despite outshooting their opponents 40-32.

Fletcher was again solid in goal, but Hamilton capitalized on key chances to edge out the win.

Hamilton struck first midway through the opening period, but Caledonia answered early in the second when Littlejohn scored a power-play goal at 2:39, assisted by Quick and Jack Gallo. The Kilty B’s regained the lead later in the frame before Hobson tied it at 9:44 of the third. With the score even, Hamilton scored the eventual game-winner at 15:23 in the third.

The Corvairs pulled Fletcher in the final minute for an extra attacker, but could not find the equalizer.

The penalty kill remained perfect as the power play went 1-for-2.

The Corvairs now sit at 8-3-0-0 on the season and will look to rebound when they face Brantford on October 23 at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre.

They will then host Welland on October 25 before travelling to Welland for an immediate rematch on October 26.
