HAGERSVILLE—Last Thursday we held the 24th draw of Catch the Ace (round two). We sold an outstanding 1,345 tickets that day. It seems that the higher the jackpot is, the more tickets we sell.

We get asked if we sell tickets online, but we are not able to do that. According to the AGCO, Catch the Ace is either a printed ticket/in-person version or an online version. We cannot mix both. We chose the in-person version and the Hagersville Legion is happy to host us every Thursday, a perfect win-win situation. We started selling tickets at 2:30 p.m. at the Legion on Thursday due to the increased demand and to accommodate shift working people.

Thursday used to be a quiet day for the Legion, but these days it is bustling and many people stay to be there for the draw. Others watch it live on the new Hagersville Lions Facebook page, some watch it later, and some just wait for the phone call that we make to every winner who is not in the building at the time of the draw.

Trust me, we’ve had some interesting/joyous conversations. That’s a fun call to make.

With the jackpot being estimated at $19,019 this week, plan on coming early, not at the last minute if you can. It will be busy (I hope).

And just to mention it again, the funds raised will go to the West Haldimand Hospital & Healthcare Foundation, the Hagersville Food Bank, and a small portion to the Hagersville Lions.

Thank you to all who did participate and had fun with us. Hope to see you this Thursday again.
