HAGERSVILLE—On Thursday, Janurary 26, 2023 the Hagersville Lions held the 35th draw of our Catch the Ace fundraiser. Just when I thought we couldn’t possibly sell more tickets than last week, I was proven wrong. We sold 28,680 tickets! That is nearly 7,000 more than last week. Good thing we had plenty of tickets on hand. Our brand-new raffle drum was half full and I’m worried what will happen in two weeks – if we are still going, that is.
Our weekly winner Randy Wozney (71, retired Hamilton firefighter) won $38,254. When asked what he will do with the money, he said he knows exactly what he will do with it – he will support his kids and grandkids, some of whom are studying. How great is that!

I estimate that the weekly winner will receive about $43-45,000 this week – if we sell more tickets than last time again. The grand prize jackpot is now estimated at $283,238! Together with the weekly winning portion the takeaway will be over $325,000. Who will be the lucky winner taking home this massive jackpot? I don’t know, but I do know that there are only good winners.
The Hagersville Lions, the Hagersville Rocks Committee (under the Hagersville Chamber of Commerce), the Hagersville Legion, and other people helping us are working so tirelessly to put this event on and make it fun and successful. They are taking so much time to volunteer for us.
I want to thank all of them; without you, there would be no Catch the Ace.
The traffic in Hagersville on a Thursday afternoon is a bit crazy and parking is hard to find. Please be patient and kind and watch out for pedestrians. And please don’t park in driveways or block others. This is such a fun and exciting event, I just don’t want this positive experience to be influenced by any negative occurrence.
Come on down this Thursday to the Hagersville Legion for at least one more chance to Catch the Ace!
Tickets are sold in the afternoon until 7:50 p.m. One for $10 or three for $20. The draw is at 8 p.m. and can be watched live on the ‘Hagersville Lions Club – New Page’ Facebook page.
