CAYUGA—Haldimand County Council voted unanimously in support of a draft motion aimed at renaming the Cayuga bridge after fallen OPP Constable Grzegorz Pierzchala, in accordance with the Ministry of Transportation’s Highway Memorial for Fallen Police Officers Act.
The motion, filed by Councillor John Metcalfe, directs staff to proceed with the MTO process related to dedicating a bridge, which will include consultation with Pierzchala’s family and the OPP.
“I thought it fitting that being a young bridge and a young officer, they meld together and give us an opportunity to honour this outstanding officer, young as he was,” said Metcalfe. “I thought it was a way to permanently acknowledge his service and dedication to the county.”
