CAYUGA—More than 30 people came out to a Flag Raising ceremony at the Cayuga Municipal Offices on Monday, May 1, 2023 to celebrate Community Living Haldimand (CLH) and the start of Community Living Month in Ontario.
The crowd was welcomed by Heather Furtney, President of the Board of CLH. Heather talked about the rich history of CLH and the importance of connections with families, businesses, and social, religious, and educational groups.
MPP Bobbi Ann Brady provided greetings, stating, “I don’t think we give people with developmental disabilities enough credit for their abilities. We truly don’t know what anyone is capable of until given an opportunity”. Brady thanked employers and the community for walking alongside CLH in being inclusive and welcoming.
“Community Living Haldimand is a shining example of what a community can achieve when it comes together to support those who need it the most,” stated Mayor Shelley Ann Bentley. “Truly, communities are places where everyone belongs.”
Blair King, a 30-plus-year employee of the County and someone supported by CLH, told the gathering, “Thank you Community Living for always being there to support me”.
Established in 1959, CLH provides supports and services to approximately 170 people throughout Haldimand. For more information, visit clhaldimand.com.
