CAYUGA—The Cayuga Light Up Night on December 2 had plenty of family fun. Families were invited to have their picture taken with Santa and get their faces painted by Libro Credit Union volunteers. Cayuga firefighters collected non-perishable items for local food banks. Ouse Street South and Cayuga Street North were closed to traffic so families could explore the businesses, enjoy hot food and drinks, and take a look at racecars brought by Toronto Motorsports Park. The Cayuga Library hosted a Christmas craft, while Ruthven Park gave out homemade cookies. The evening ended with a beautiful fireworks show with Christmas music, sponsored by Haldimand Motors, along the riverbank. Committee Chair Bernadine Lutes said, “It was a huge success. The weather cooperated for us. Some people questioned whether it was still on as rain was pouring all around other areas. I think we had between 800 to 1,000 people come out.” Lutes extended “a big thank you” to the sponsors, business supporters, volunteers, and attendees. JARVIS—The Jarvis Light Up festivities are in full swing. From weekly searches for Jarvis the Elf to special menus from local restaurants, there is plenty of fun to be had. This past weekend stepped it up a notch with Santa’s Travelling Dance Party. The party visited Jarvis on December 2, 2022 and made its way through Davey Court, Cartier Court, and Karsen Avenue/Leslie Street. The following day the party resumed at the Townsend Community Church parking lot. Above, the many volunteer elves posed for a photo at the Christmas Central Studios. See Jarvis Light Up 2022 on Facebook for more information on upcoming Light Up events and contests, and look for the Light Up song book and map in next week’s Haldimand Press.
