HALDIMAND—Haldimand Council approved a motion of consent and a by-law on April 16, 2019, both concerning truck routes in the municipality.
Ward 4 Councillor Tony Dalimonte said more still needs to be done to ensure the safety of residents.
“I have an issue with trucks going through the downtown core; we have experienced some incidents like the one that happened last week when a fully loaded transport truck hit the main light stand and never stopped,” said Dalimonte. The truck in question went on to hit a vehicle before it stopped outside Hagersville near Hewitt’s Dairy.
Councillor Dalimonte added that there have been a number of incidents in downtown Hagersville because trucks are choosing not to go around the community: “I think we need to do something about it. It’s unsafe and unfair to the community. The new rules are a start, but we need to go one step further and divert the trucks around the downtown core.”
