HALDIMAND—It’s never a “dill” moment at Haldimand Museums!
Haldimand Museums invites you to celebrate fall with a county-wide exploration of pickling history, culture, and creativity. From October through February, “The Pickle Project” exhibition brings together three unique exhibits and two engaging events that highlight the legacy of pickling in Haldimand.
All three Haldimand museums are showcasing pickle-themed displays as part of “The Pickle Project.” The exhibits are open to the public during regular business hours, free of charge. Museum details, including hours and contacts, can be found at haldimandcounty.ca/museums.
The Pickle Project: History in a Barrel
This exhibit traces the journey of the cucumber from farm to factory through photographs, artifacts, and personal stories. It is on until November 14, 2025 at Wilson MacDonald Memorial School Museum, 3513 Rainham Road, Selkirk.
The Pickle Project: History in the Making
Explore the industrial side of pickling with artifacts from the former Bick’s factory in Dunnville and oral histories from past employees. This exhibit is on until January 2, 2026 at Cayuga Library & Heritage Centre, 19 Talbot Street West, Cayuga.
The Pickle Project: History in a Jar
Discover the Bick’s Pickle Cruet Collection and other pickle-themed paraphernalia used to present the perfect pickle.
This exhibit is on until February 2026 at Edinburgh Square Heritage & Cultural Centre, 80 Caithness Street East, Caledonia.
‘Brine & Shine’ canning competition
We’re putting residents’ pickling skills to the test at the Pickle Project canning competition on Wednesday, October 22 at 7 p.m. at Edinburgh Square Heritage & Cultural Centre. Categories include dill pickles, sweet pickles, pickled fruit, and pickled root vegetables. For more details, visit haldimandcounty.ca/pickle-project.
Murder Mystery: ‘The Pilfered Pickle’
Celebrate International Pickle Day with a lighthearted murder mystery event. Help solve the case of the missing Fabergé Pickle while enjoying refreshments and plenty of “jarring” fun. This event takes place Thursday, November 14 at Edinburgh Square Heritage & Cultural Centre. Tickets are $45 per person. Pre-registration is required.
