Dunnville Library Summer Book Sale opens July 3

To The Haldimand Press

DUNNVILLE—Avid readers have been eagerly awaiting the return of the Summer Book Sale at the Dunnville Public Library. It’s back this year with thousands and thousands of gently used books. The sale runs July 3 to September 2 during regular Dunnville Library hours (Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.).

The sale is organized by The Friends of the Dunnville Public Library. This will be the 24th annual Book Sale. It draws visitors from all over the Niagara Peninsula, Toronto, and beyond, as well as year-round and summer residents and visitors to the area.

On opening day, almost 10,000 gently used books will be on offer as well as hundreds of DVDs. Inventory is added weekly, sometimes daily. By the end of the sale, 50,000 books will have been put out for sale. Books are categorized into six fiction categories: classics, inspirational fiction, mystery, science fiction and fantasy, romance, and general fiction. Books in fiction categories are alphabetized by author, making it easy for visitors to find favourite authors or those elusive volumes needed to complete a collection. More than 25 non-fiction categories cover a wide range of topics. A large selection of children’s books is available for babies through teens.  All books are now $1 each except for specially priced categories.

To give customers a more pleasant shopping experience, some changes have been made. The number of customers in the Book Sale room at one time may be limited, especially early in the sale. The Friends ask for patience as they implement this new process. Cash only will be accepted, and customers are asked to bring their own bags if possible, though the usual bags and boxes will be available.

The Friends could not hold this sale without the support of the community. Almost all of the inventory comes from donations from the public. Donations are being accepted now at the Dunnville Library and will continue to be accepted through the sale. To maintain the high quality of the items in the sale, donors are asked to not bring in encyclopedias, textbooks, Reader’s Digest Condensed books, or books that are damaged or in poor condition.

Tickets for the annual 50/50 draw will also be available. Tickets are $1 each and the grand prize will be 50% of all the tickets sold, to a maximum of $1,000. Draw takes place September 30, 2023 at 3 p.m. at the Library.

Over the years, The Friends have provided funding for a wide variety of programs, products, and services to enhance the Dunn-ville Library for the benefit of its patrons and visitors. Call the Dunnville Library for more information at 289-674-0400 ext. 3.
