DUNNVILLE—A section of Main Street West, between Cedar Street and Queen Street and in front of the Dunnville Water Treatment Plant, will remain closed for the time being due to an issue related to the structural integrity of the exterior, traffic-facing wall of the plant.
According to County staff, “unforeseen issues (were) identified during exterior restoration work with the roadside wall.”
The plant is currently undergoing extensive restorations and upgrades, with the deficiencies found during Phase 2 of the overall work, which began in fall 2021 and is expected to be complete by June 2023, with an overall budget of $1,955,000.
While Haldimand is unable to provide a guaranteed timeframe for when the closed area of road will reopen, the County said the contractor behind the restoration is currently working with a structural engineer to address the issue.
“The full scope of repair work is yet to be determined – that’s what we are waiting on and will provide an update once we know more. Issues with the structural integrity of the brick wall closest to the road was identified,” said Customer Experience and Communications Supervisor Kyra Hayes.
The issue is not expected to have any impact on plant operations.
Hayes concluded, “When we have more information available about what repairs might be needed, cost estimates, and other related details, we’ll share an update with the community and media.”
