DUNNVILLE—For more than 50 years, youth from across the country have shared their creativity to express their feelings on Remembrance Day for the annual Poster and Literary contests sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion (RCL). This year, one of the national winners includes Dunnville Christian School (DCS) student Elise DeBoer, whose second-place poetry entry asks Canadians to “Just Think.”

The annual poster, essay, and poetry contest is a tradition at DCS as Principal Nicole VanHuizen says, “We look for authentic ways for students to develop their skills.” She adds, “We have a deep sense of appreciation for the soldiers who have died for our freedom in Canada.”

Elise wrote “Just Think” for a Grade 6 class assignment and it was entered in November 2019. She recalls, “I was thinking about the soldiers who died for our freedom. I felt inspired to write a poem about my feelings on Remembrance Day.
