Firefighters’ 50th annual fish fry sizzles with success

CANBOROUGH—The Canborough Firefighters Association did not disappoint with its 50th annual Fish Fry on Saturday, February 22, 2025. Over 300 people were served 200 pounds of Lake Erie perch, along with fries, coleslaw, and pie. With the fire trucks pulled out of the fire hall, the area was converted into a perch prep area as well as a takeaway table for people on the go. “It’s always been a popular event with the community,” said Fire Chief Jim Schuit. “Money raised goes to numerous needy groups, including the food banks, hospitals, Salvation Army, and Minor Hockey Association, to name just a few.” Chief Schuit explained this is the last fish fry that he will oversee, but he will continue to attend. Enjoy your retirement, Jim! Shown above, Anja Kitchen, Sam Goehner, Ron and Karen Kitchen, Deb Muir-Dennie, and Linda Campagnolo enjoy their meal.
