CALEDONIA—Grand Erie District School Board (GEDSB) is asking the Haldimand and Brantford communities to submit name suggestions for two elementary schools currently under construction, each slated to open within the next two years.
“The name of a school should resonate with and reflect its community and the values, histories, and aspirations that make it unique,” said Susan Gibson, Chair of the Board. “This process aims to engage those communities directly to put their stamp on these new schools and inspire a love of learning for generations to come.”
The new elementary schools are located in Caledonia, on track to welcome students next September, and in West Brant, expected to open in 2026.
GEDSB’s procedure governing school naming offers considerations that may help get the creative juices flowing, including local geography, street names, historical names or events, or an individual who has made an outstanding and enduring contribution to the educational community. Names should also reflect GEDSB’s mission to building a culture of learning, wellbeing, and belonging.
Submissions can be made until February 6, 2025. The top submissions for each school will be taken to the school naming committees for each region. The committee will review submissions and provide their recommendations. The final recommendations will be taken to the Board of Trustees in late February for approval.
