CAYUGA—On Friday, March 8, 2024 Haldimand Curling Club held its final night of curling for the winter season. It was a celebration with music and feasting on chicken wings and nachos. On the ice the action was intense as teams squared off against each other to determine the season winners. In the championship game the two top teams from the regular season faced off. Team Kevin (Kevin Proctor, Sandie Rowell, Wade Dowling, and Kim Lint) took on team Laurie (Laurie Admiral, Jeremy Dowling, Gary Smith, and Mary Elliott). Kevin scored one in the first end, but then Laurie pulled out in front with three in the second end, a single point in the third, and again in the fourth. Kevin made a valiant effort to come back but fell just short. When it all was over Laurie had won 7-5; pictured is the winning team: (l-r) Mary Elliott (lead), Gary Smith (2nd), Jeremy Dowling (vice), Laurie Admiral (skip). With the loss, team Kevin went into a draw to the button with other winners of the day to determine second place. The winner of this was the team of Glynis Glenney, Wayne Roberts, and Deb Maarhuis with Ian and Justin VanderHeide taking turns at throwing first stones. The teams in the lower half of the standings played off among themselves for third place. This went to the team of Brendan Murphy, Donna Delorey, Denis Robitaille, and Tony Simpson substituting for Amy Salter. Thank you to all who participated and to the volunteers who made this season of curling possible. For information about the club, check out the website at haldimandcurling.ca.
