Our society is blooming!

Membership Secretary Gord Roberts announced that the Haldimand Horticultural Society (HHS) has 128 members to date and our Youth Group has nine members. Thank you to all those who purchased a membership to keep our society active in our community.

HALDIMAND— An award-winning entry in this month’s competition from Sharon Slack.

We also thank the volunteers who maintain the gardens in our community. This summer has experienced lots of rain, which was good for the many annuals and perennials planted in the spring and thriving now as we near the end of the season.

The Green Gardians youth group completed a fabulous new pollinator and annuals garden at the Caledonia Mill. Enjoy the view from there; at sunset it is especially nice.

Our speakers for the General Meeting were Elsie Eubank and Don Reeder. Elsie spoke and showed a video from the annual OHA Convention held in Ottawa this July. Several HHS members attended. Don explained about some design styles for flower arranging: pave, mass designs, and line designs. Thank you Don and Elsie.

Please continue knitting or crocheting poppies as we are adding a new banner to the Hagersville Cenotaph.

HHS presents a bursary every year to students at each of the area secondary schools. McKinnon Park Secondary has held its ceremony for graduated students and congratulations goes to Cassidy Arnold who was the recipient of the bursary. Hagersville and Cayuga Secondary Schools hold their ceremonies later in the year.

Please join us at our next General meeting, September 28, for a fun evening which will feature a mini flower show and live auction as well as a peach social. All are welcome.
