HALDIMAND—Do you know a young person in Grades 10-12 who has expressed interest in a career in policing?
Haldimand OPP is offering a Youth Citizens Academy this winter season that will teach the fundamentals on a broad range of topics.
Members of the OPP will conduct presentations throughout the sessions on topics such as Recruiting, Major Crime, Canine Services, Forensic Identification Services, Emergency Response Team, and several others.
“This program is directed at mature youth in Grades 10-12, and who have an interest in learning more about a career in policing. They must attend one of the four Haldimand County high schools and be of good standing in their regular classes at school,” said OPP Constable Patti Cote.
All applicants will be subject to a standard police record check and must be able to attend each of the 10 total sessions.
Those sessions will take place on Thursday evenings from 7-9 p.m. They will take place between February 6 to April 10 (except for March 13).
Interested students can collect an application form directly from their school, or visit haldimandcounty.ca, where they can fill it out online.
According to Cote, all applications received will be considered, and the class size will be determined by the number of applications received.
Interested students should act quickly though, as applications will only be accepted until December 20.
