Hawks out, Corvairs begin playoffs

The Hawks have fallen to the Glanbrook Rangers in Round 2 of the playoffs.

Game 1 took place February 18, 2020. The first was scoreless. Glanbrook scored twice in the second. Peter Cappucci cut their lead in half with a goal for the Hawks halfway through the period. Glanbrook gave themselves some extra padding in the third. With no further goals from Hagersville, they lost 3-1. Avery Hartwick made 39 saves between the pipes.

Game 2 was on February 19. Glanbrook opened the scoring halfway through the first. Hawk Brendan Judson tied it up with a powerplay goal in the second. Glanbrook took the lead back with two unanswered goals in the third for a 3-1 win again. Jamie Ferguson had 36 saves in net for Hagersville.

Things only got worse for Hagersville in Game 3, which began with four goals from Glanbrook in the first. Judson got the only goal of the second again, but this was the only offence Hagersville managed to generate. Glanbrook added one more in the third to take the game 5-1. Hartwick had 26 saves in net. While previous games had few penalties, both teams let their emotions get the better of them this time. Glanbrook was given 68 minutes on 14 infractions and Hagersville 76 minutes on 15 infractions. The two teams traded facemask minors and inciting an opponent 10-minute misconducts in the second, although it was ended before a fight could break out. Additionally, there were five more inciting an opponent misconducts, three abuse of officials misconducts, and one head contact misconduct.

Things calmed down significantly for Game 4 on February 23. Glanbrook scored once in both the first and second periods. Cappucci got Hagersville on the board early in the third. Glanbrook added one more to take the win 3-1. Ferguson had 24 saves in net.

Having been swept 4-0 in the series, the Hawks joined the Dunnville Mudcats in the off season, while Glanbrook will continue on to Round 3.
