Hawks season comes to an end in second playoff  round

HAGERSVILLE—The Hawks 2024-25 season concluded on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 as they were swept in the second round of playoffs.

The Hawks finished the regular season with 50 points in fourth place of the South Bloomfield Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League with a record of 24 wins, 16 losses, two overtime losses, and two shootout wins. 

Heading into the first round of the playoffs they faced fifth place Glanbrook Rangers, defeating them after six games. 

The Hawks then faced first-placed Dundas Blues. In regular season play, Dundas won five of six games against Hagersville. As reported March 13, the Blues took a commanding lead of the series with three straight wins. Facing elimination, the Hawks failed to mount any offence and were run over 9-0 on March 11, ending their playoff run.

Marcus Lazarevic led the team on offence in the playoffs, with nine goals and three assists over 10 games, followed by Jarett Moriarity (six goals, four assists) and Dylan Wardell (four goals, six assists). Meanwhile, Damon Decaire and Carson Trevisani made big moves on defence, including a goal and five assists a piece. 

Lazarevic led the team in the regular season as well with 34 goals and 36 assists for 70 points over 41 games. Wardell secured 53 points over 37 games (21 goals and 32 assists), with Luke Leblanc (21 goals, 29 assists) and Moriarity (23 goals, 26 assists) following close behind. Decaire led the defence in points, with five goals and 19 assists, followed by Bevan Aitchison at five goals and nine assists.

Rookie Liam Wilson held strong in net to give the Hawks this playoff chance, playing 28 of the regular season games with a 3.32 goals against average (GAA), allowing just 90 goals on 1,026 shots for a 0.912 save percentage. He played all 10 playoff games, allowingw 35 goals on 354 shots. Meanwhile, rookie Liam Griffin offered support, playing in 10 games of the regular season with a 3.55 GAA and 0.897 save percentage with 34 goals on 329 shots, while stepping into four playoff games to save 67 of 75 shots.
