The need for price controls
To the Editor,
Pierre Elliot introduced the ‘Price Controls’ to counter inflation that was only 10% in 1975. We are dealing with price ‘Gouging’ right now that’s well over 35% per year (from bread and vegetables to gasoline).
No small wonder that young, bright kids have given up trying to duplicate the life their parents had, and have chosen instead to ‘drop out’ of society’s bitter competition, and just stick a needle in their arms. Their future is as bleak as the front pages of the media they intake.
Where is the good news, the uplifting, the chances for hope to continue trying?
With the Bank of Canada yet again raising interest rates to the point of ever dwindling hopes of home ownership, sharing a room, or an apartment, is just a recipe for a troubled future.
We need price controls now, more than ever, in this post Covid nightmare.

Urgent request to prevent shutdown of Covid Cold and Flu Trailer
Dear all Haldimand County and surrounding area elected officials,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I am writing to you as a concerned citizen and resident of Cayuga/Haldimand County, regarding the impending shutdown of the Covid Cold and Flu Trailer in our community (Hagersville Hospital). I urge you to take immediate action to prevent this closure, as it plays a vital role in improving wait times, prioritizing children’s healthcare needs, and reducing the patient load on our local hospitals.
The Covid Cold and Flu Trailer has proven to be an invaluable asset during these challenging times, serving as a dedicated facility for managing respiratory illnesses such as colds, flu, and Covid-19. By providing specialized care for individuals with mild to moderate symptoms, it has significantly contributed to alleviating the strain on our healthcare system, particularly our local hospitals.
One of the most significant advantages of the trailer is its positive impact on wait times. By separating patients with respiratory symptoms from those requiring emergency care, it effectively reduces congestion in hospital emergency rooms. This separation enables quicker triaging and treatment for patients, ensuring that those in critical condition receive prompt attention while reducing unnecessary strain on healthcare professionals.
Additionally, the Covid Cold and Flu Trailer has been instrumental in ensuring the expedited care of children. As we know, children are particularly vulnerable to respiratory illnesses, and their wellbeing is of utmost importance to our community. The dedicated facility has allowed pediatric patients to receive specialized attention and treatment without delay, resulting in improved outcomes and peace of mind for their families.
Furthermore, the trailer’s presence has effectively curtailed the patient load on our local hospitals. By diverting individuals with mild to moderate symptoms to a separate facility, it has reduced the burden on emergency departments and medical staff. This not only enables medical professionals to focus their efforts on critical cases but also ensures that resources and personnel are optimally utilized, thereby maximizing the overall efficiency of our healthcare system.
Considering the undeniable benefits that the Covid Cold and Flu Trailer has brought to our community, it would be highly detrimental to shut down this vital facility. Doing so would not only compromise the quality of care for individuals with respiratory illnesses but also impede the progress made in managing patient flow and wait times within our healthcare system.
I implore you, as our elected representative, to advocate for the continuation of the Covid Cold and Flu Trailer’s operations. Please utilize your influence and voice to ensure that the necessary funding and resources are allocated to sustain this facility, thereby safeguarding the health and wellbeing of our community members.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I trust in your dedication to serving our community and look forward to a positive response, assuring us of your commitment to preserving the vital services provided by the Covid Cold and Flu Trailer.
Yours sincerely,
Michelle Gerritsen,
Cayuga
