HAGERSVILLE—The Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) is one of many organizations that relies on the hard work and dedication of volunteers to achieve its success; they recognized the work of these volunteers with the second annual “Thank a Volunteer Week” from February 22 to March 1, 2020.
According to its website, OMHA has one volunteer for every three players. These individuals include coaches, trainers, managers, and administrators who, on average, commit 20 hours of work each month. One such volunteer in Haldimand is Lloyd Williams, President of the Hagersville Minor Hockey Association (HMHA).
Williams has been a volunteer with HMHA for 10 years. As a trainer since his son, Nolan, was in the Tyke program, he has enjoyed working with the same coach, Adam Bines, for many of those seasons. In the Williams family, sports are not limited to hockey; Nolan plays hardball in Port Dover and Lloyd says, “I’m out there to help – whatever the coach needs.” His daughter, Addison, has played softball in Hagersville and his wife, Carrie, has been on the executive of Hagersville Minor Ball for five years.
