Police seek public help in drive by Cayuga shooting

CAYUGA—An early morning shooting on May 27, 2025 has prompted an ongoing investigation by Haldimand County OPP, who are appealing to the public for help in getting answers.

According to OPP Sergeant Ed Sanchuk in an update posted to social media, officers responded around 2:15 a.m. to a 911 call reporting a weapons complaint on Thorburn Street.

Police determined that an unknown suspect had discharged a firearm at a home on Thorburn Street near the intersection of Joseph Street East, striking the residence and a vehicle parked in the driveway.

No injuries were reported from the incident.

The area of Thorburn Street from Highway 3 (Talbot Street East) to Joseph Street East was closed for several hours as officers continued their investigation on Tuesday.

The Haldimand County OPP Crime Unit is urging residents in the area, including those on adjacent side streets, to check any video surveillance footage for potential evidence of the suspect vehicle or individuals involved.
